Minnesota Clay Co. USA Galleries-Jessica Gorlin-Liddell

Jessica Gorlin-Liddell

Jessica's work was recently featured on HGTV's, Crafter's Coast to Coast using Minnesota Clay Underglazes, and potter's pads.

Project by Jessica Gorlin-Liddell from Philadelphia.
Using a technique that combines decoupage and mosaic, Jessica creates functional artwork around personal mementos like wedding invitations, baby announcements, kids’ artwork and honeymoon souvenirs. For this project, she makes a mosaic picture frame that incorporates hand-stamped tiles, textured clay pieces, and paper images set under glass.
Crafter's Coast to Coast

Jessica Gorlin-Liddell starting making mosaics about 10 years ago, after she took a trip to Spain and saw first hand the incredible, eclectic mosaic work of Antoni Gaudi.  Rather than marveling over his work and returning back to life as she knew it, she took this love of mosaic back home with her and hasn’t looked back since.  She started taking classes at an arts and crafts college and found this medium to be truly addictive.  Jessica now shares the wealth by teaching mosaic techniques to local enthusiasts.  She especially enjoys creating personalized pieces for others, and herself, to enjoy.

Framed Piece by LiddellFramed Piece by LiddellJessica has found a great way to create personalized mosaic pieces with her vacation themed frame.  For the mosaic tiles, some of the pieces are made out of slabs of clay which Jessica rolls herself, texturing the slabs, cutting them into shapes before glazing and firing.  She also hand carves linoleum stamps with images that tie into her theme and uses them to decorate tile, which she then glazes, fires, and breaks up into pieces.  Jessica combines the handmade and stamped tile pieces with paper images laid under glass pieces and baubles, including maps, tickets, pamphlets, postcard images, photos and any other paper keepsakes from the trip, combining a decoupage concept with mosaic techniques to tell a story.  Finally, the pieces are adhered to a wooden frame and grouted, and once dry, your favorite photo from the trip is ready to be custom framed.
