This is a superb reference book. Comparisons are bound to be made to Hamer and Hamer's excellent The Potter's Dictionary of Materials and Techniques (although Fournier's first edition actually pre-dates Hamers book by two years). It is interesting to compare the two references based on entries for the same terms, but this is not a very profitable pursuit - you'll find very little disagreement between the authors on key concepts.

Fournier's book really shines in its use of photograph sequences illustrating techniques, tools and concepts. The entries are written with the confidence of experience and the warmness of someone who really loves the subject matter. This book will be especially useful in the pottery classroom, where it will get equal use in researching terminology as it will in honing skills.
